Qualifying Process for CAPO National Championships 2013:

Who has to qualify?
All lifters MUST qualify by lifting at a sanctioned CAPO competition in 2013 to lift at the National Championships in one form or another.
Senior Mens (24-32years) and Submasters Mens (33-39years) must meet particular standards to qualify also, dependant on if they are lifting in Raw, Raw-Plus or Equipped Divisions.

Do I have to meet the qualifying standards?
ONLY those wanting to lift in the Open Mens flight and those who are in the Senior Mens and Submasters Mens categories (automatically in the Open Mens flight) must meet the minimum standards of Raw - 2nd Grade, Raw Plus - 1st Grade and Equipped - Bronze Grade.

If I'm NOT in the Opens Mens flight, how do I qualify?
Those intending to lift in the Teenage, Junior, Masters or Womens sections of the National Championships MUST have posted a 3lift total in a sanctioned CAPO competition in 2013 or alternatively if wanting to lift in the Bench Only section of the championships, MUST have posted a successful bench press in a sanctioned CAPO competition in 2013 (this can be single lift bench press competition or 3lift competition).

If I want to lift in the Open Mens flight, but I'm not an Open Men's lifter, how do i qualify?
Any Teen, Junior or Masters lifter wanting to lift in the Open Mens must meet the qualifying standards of:
Raw - 2nd Grade, Raw Plus (knee wraps) - 1st Grade, Equipped - Bronze Grade.
For clarification about these standards, please consult the "Downloads" section of www.capopowerlifting.com.au

Can i change weight classes once I've qualified to lift in the Open Mens?
The qualifying process is in place to make sure all competitors have met a minimum standard deemed appropriate for National level competition.  Qualifying in a specific weight class and staying in that weigh class serves the purpose of letting the meet organiser structure lifting flights accurately and to order awards appropriately.  A lifter who cannot make it down to their weight class, may lift in the weight class above under certain conditions (described below).

What if I can't make it down to the weight class I've qualified in?
Making weight has always been and remains the responsibility of the lifter.  Once a lifter has qualified in a particular weight class, this is the weight class they should endeavour to lift in at the National Championships. If a lifter does not make the weight class they have qualified in, however meets the qualification standard of the class above, they are able to lift in the next weight class above.

What if I qualified raw but I want to lift equipped, but not change weight classes?
If you have qualified raw in a particular weight class, you do not automatically qualify for either raw plus or equipped divisions and vice-versa.  If a lifter changes their mind and wants to change equipment categories, they will need to meet the particular lifting standard in the equipment division in their chosen weight class.

Does anybody get immediate qualification?
Yes, those who lifted at the WPC or GPA World Championships at the end of the previous year do not have to qualify to compete at the Nationals the following year.

If I'm a CAPO New Zealand lifter can I lift at the Australian Championships?
Yes, you can lift at the National Championships however you will have to meet the same standards as Australian lifters at either a sanctioned CAPO Australia or CAPO NZ 3 lift competition.
